Um excerto da reportagem do New York Times sobre o Parsifal de Schlingensief: "Even if it did not provide the promised scandal, this "Parsifal" was certainly unlike any seen before at this festival. The knights of the Grail, whose leader, Amfortas, has been mortally wounded and must be saved by the holy fool Parsifal, have abandoned Wagner's mythological Middle Ages in favor of a deconstructed and symbol-strewn landscape that supposedly combined elements of Nepal and Namibia. In practice, the stage was a chaotic jumble of urban ruble, ancient Asian and African religious symbols and high-concept directorial statements such as a "Cemetery of Art" that shows up in the third act, with famous paintings set out as tombstones. Wagner's characters also had a new multicultural look. The knights of the Grail, a disturbingly pure-blooded group in Wagner's original, were transformed into a motley crew of races and creeds more interested in pagan rituals than Christian religious rites, and the seductive maidens of the evil sorcerer Klingsor were bedecked in various combinations of feathers and tribal body paints. It all added up to an overwhelming visual picture, but Mr. Schlingensief did not stop there, layering on still more visuals with an almost constant stream of shifting filmic images projected onto scrims and onto the stage itself. The relationship of the images to the musical-dramatic moment was, shall we say, indirect: seals cavorting on the beach while Gurnemanz lamented the fate of the order of the Grail; a giant decomposing rabbit during the work's sublime conclusion. In fairness to Mr. Schlingensief, this was not as arbitrary as it may sound. The film, according to an explanatory note, was his attempt to embrace viewers with a contemporary visual language speaking most readily to them, in keeping with Wagner's theories of opera as an all-encompassing total work of art. The African and Asian cultural artifacts were attempts to find religious and mythological imagery still resonant in a secular age. But the giant rabbit, well, that's still anyone's guess."
Prior to Sunday's performance, the enfant terrible among Germany's theater directors had talked about plans to hide after Sunday to escape the wrath of his critics. Schlingensief had expected the opening night to end in scandal after the lead tenor had called the production an abomination in a radio interview and festival director Wolfgang Wagner had asked that the use of a video depicting a decaying rabbit be toned down. But the closest Schlingensief got to a scandal was a round of heavy booing as the director appeared on stage for a curtain call. At the official reception that followed the festival's opening in the northern Bavarian town of Bayreuth, the director and his team were cheered and welcomed with fanfares.Wolfgang Wagner, the grandson of Richard Wagner, talked about a "successful performance.""A very courageous staging"Even Bavaria's conservative political leaders were full of praise. While admitting that he needed some time to get his head around what he'd seen, Bavarian Premier Edmund Stoiber seemed pleased with Schlingensief's work."This is not a scandal, but a very, very courageous staging," who had brought along Jose Barroso, the former Portuguese premier who will take over as European Commission president in November. Schlingensief himself told reporters that he had not hoped for a scandal."We're relieved and very proud," he said. "We fought a lot and it's been worth it. We wanted to show Bayreuth unusual images and we've accomplished that."
E aqui vai a crítica:
"Avant-garde director Christoph Schlingensief's production premiered at the Bayreuth festival Sunday, drawing a mixed reaction, with some of the black-tie audience booing at the conclusion of the performance in the opera house Wagner had built in the 19th century to stage his works.
Chosen to liven up the festival, now in its 93rd year, Schlingensief drew on African myths and images for his Parsifal. His use of on-stage nudity and projected backdrops also raised eyebrows.
The festival's biggest controversy in years reignited Monday with Schlingensief's broadside against tenor Endrik Wottrich, who has called the director's version "an abomination" that strays too far from Wagner's tale of medieval knight-priests and the Holy Grail.
Schlingensief told a news conference that Wottrich had "a purity notion" of Germany that he didn't agree with. He claimed the tenor had objected to the inclusion of blacks in the staging of the opera and had used the German word "Neger," which is translated as Negroes and has a similar derrogatory meaning in German.
There was no immediate comment from Wottrich, who was not at the news conference.
Festival director Wolfgang Wagner, an 84-year-old grandson of the composer, defended Wottrich's previous criticism that the director's production was an unworthy interpretation of Wagner's original. "Artistic freedom also implies a freedom to speak," he said Monday." O pior é que ninguém me dá ouvidos...:-)

Loucura e Vaias
Agora, encontrar bilhetes...

Kundry no Intervalo
